Segregation of garbage and Monitoring System Project
One of the major problems faced by the world today is proper waste management and Garbage Segregation.
India is the second most populated country in the world, and with the increasing population, pollution is also escalating.
Most of the times, it is seen that garbage and waste products are spilled on top of and around the garbage bins.
This can lead to the spread of various deadly diseases. Also, due to lack of coordination and communication between the municipality workers, garbage collected from streets and households are directly disposed in the dumping grounds.
This way of disposing waste materials is easy but not safe. We can take steps to improve this and make the existing waste management process better.
The first step in doing so is segregating the waste materials at its source into dry waste and wet waste. This can be very helpful in maintaining proper waste management.
In this project, we propose an IoT based garbage segregator and monitoring system, where the system not only helps in the segregation of waste materials but also monitors the level of waste in the dustbins.
In this system, multiple dustbins and a voice-based assistant are used to help the user out in segregating the waste.
To sense whether a person is present in front of the dustbin or not, a camera module is fitted. Once the camera senses a person in front of it, the voice assistant automatically activates and instructs the user to follow the steps for putting the garbage in the right dustbin.
If the system finds that the dustbins are full, it instructs the user to find another dustbin that is empty. In this way, this system prevents the spillage or scattering of wastes around the dustbin.
This system uses a Raspberry Pi controller, which is connected to a camera and voice module for communication and interaction with the user.
This system used ultrasonic level sensors to detect the level of garbage in the dustbins. Each if these sensors have an LED attached to itself. The controller circuit is connected to the IoT platform with the help of Wi-Fi module.
The Raspberry Pi controller transmits the read data over the internet to the IoT module, to keep monitoring the level of garbage.
The panels for the level sensors can be made by keeping the sensor directly above the dustbins. Once the system finds out that the level is above the maximum level, it alerts the owner that the dustbins are full, and need to be emptied.
In this way, this system helps in garbage segregation and proper waste management with the help of IoT and Raspberry-Pi.
