IoT examples: Explained as per Applications

Following are top 7 IoT examples as per different application areas if you want to know about the basics of IoT i.e. What is IoT technology? then check here What is IoT Technology? – Internet of Things Explained with Examples.

Home Automation or Smart Home uses a computer or a smartphone and Information Technology to control home appliances and home features. It involves the control and automation of lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), appliances, and security.

Imagine walking into your home and being greeted at the door with lights illuminating your path without you ever having to touch a light switch, with your favorite music streaming through the speakers (because your home recognized that it was you and not someone else), all while having the peace of mind knowing that your home automation system took care of activating your security system.

2. Smart Healthcare

Healthcare automation connects patients and healthcare providers and helps to diagnose, track, monitor and store medical information using a wireless communication system of apps and devices.

Few examples of healthcare automation are:

  • Wearable technology device
  • Telehealth and telemedicine
  • Headsets that measure brainwaves
  • Clothes with sensing devices
  • BP monitors
  • Glucose monitors
  • ECG monitors
  • Pulse oximeters
  • Sensors embedded in medical equipment
  • Dispensing systems
  • Surgical robots and
  • Device implants

5. Waste management

Waste management is the process to manage waste from its inception to its disposal. This also includes amongst other things, collection, transport, treatment and disposal of waste together with monitoring and regulation.

Today, technology plays a vital role in waste management. Internet of things in waste

management simplifies the hectic and time-consuming waste collection and waste transport process. IoT in waste management saves the cost of transport of waste from people’s homes to the disposal area.

6. Energy management

Planning and operation of energy consumption and energy production units is energy management.

The objectives of energy management are cost savings, resource conservation, and climate protection.

It is closely connected to environmental, production, logistics management and other established business functions.

Energy management strategy may include the objective of increasing the use of renewable energies.

A long-term energy management strategy should be a part of the overall company strategy.
